Kester, Anna- Look Up - 24x24 C 700.jpg

Look Up

Acrylic on canvas. 24”x 24.” December 2019.

Look Up is a commentary on perspective. Thought the visual motif of Florida plant life and isolated architecture connect it to the other pieces in the body of work, this piece stands alone in its unique perspective. The jarring, vertical view from underneath these plants is an invitation for the viewer to step out of the regular, routine, business of the world, and look up, to behold the power of the ordinary; the commonly found, but often overlooked.

Kester, Anna- Do Not Worry, Do Not Fear - 40x40 C 1200.jpg

More Than The Sparrow

Acrylic on canvas. 40”x 40.” November 2019.

More Than The Sparrow reflects the suffocation and isolation of worry and fear, and the simultaneous beauty and hope that come from faith. A specific reference to the text in the gospel of Matthew 10:31 that reads, “Do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows,” the single sparrow how small, insignificant, and trapped one can feel in the throes of anxiety. Yet the message of hope is found in the reality of sparrow’s ordinary, common, un-noteworthy existence. Though nothing more than a common sparrow, each one is cared for - and you are worth far more than the sparrow.
